Highlights
Samsung Galaxy A05s comes with an upgraded design compared to the previous Galaxy A04 series phones. We now have a U-Notch compared to the old V-Notch style. The body is made of plastic but the back part has a matt metallic looking finish. The frame also looks and feels like brushed metal. So, despite having no punch-hole screen, no screen protection or splash resistance, the design is appreciated. The screen is also upgraded to Full HD resolution but there is no AMOLED. The PLS LCD panel lacks color accuracy. Then the 470 nits peak brightness is very mediocre for outdoor visibility. There is a 90Hz refresh rate, but the UI feels sluggish so, it’s not that much of use. There is a slow animation and pixel response, so the experience isn’t that good.
The 50 MP main camera can capture decent shots with that natural Samsung feel to it. There is still noticeable noise, dark shadows and a softer tone when zoomed in. Portrait shots look good with accurate background blur, but the edge detection isn’t consistent despite having a 2 MP depth sensor. Low light shots will show a lot of noise and poor dynamic range. There is a dedicated night mode which gives much better details and exposure. The video quality is good and you have up to 1080p@60fps recording option. There is no video stabilization included. The 13 MP f/2.0 selfie camera provides smooth skin tone with aggressive processing, which wasn’t of our liking at all. A very poor quality front camera at any price.
Battery backup is adequate with 5000 mAh capacity. Charging support is up to 25 watt, but no charger is included in the box. It’s as if the device gives you one decent feature, then cuts off another. It’s a very average type device to begin with for being so stingy. The chipset is also a weak Qualcomm Snapdragon 680 4G. RAM amount is 6 GB so, games will be playable. However, it’s not going to be very smooth. We have already talked about the slower UI response time. The 128 GB storage type is also a basic eMMC5.1 which could be a faster UFS storage for this cost. The sound quality also came very average in the GSMArena audio test. Overall, a big thumbs down to this gadget and not recommended at all.
